Design it in Wood

Larry Lichter of Design it in Wood has been in the hi-tech industry for many years.

According to his website: "My love is working with wood. I have been making custom furniture for well over 10 years now...Personally I like nothing better than to start the day with the smell of wood and a good cup of coffee. I like to finish the day with the knowledge that I have created something that will not only last for generations but is also a beautiful piece of art".

"In my many years of wood working I have found that kids' of all ages love to build. There is a pride and sense of accomplishment when making something with your own hands and watching it progress as it is meticulously crafted. Kids are no different. Building something for themselves or as a gift for another is something they will gladly take time from TV to do".

"Woodworking helps develop small motor skills, coordination, confidence, concentration and safety techniques. Under professional supervision, use of tools, measurement and workmanship is learned".

Programs are 8 weeks in duration.

Child Care

About Child Care

All CVUSD elementary schools offer Child Care before and after school and most provide Kindergarten Enrichment programs. Families enrolled in any CVUSD school may enroll their child in any of our Child Care programs, if the program at their school is full, and as long as they are able to arrange transportation to the other school. Enrollment ratio follows state guidelines and is based on one adult per fourteen students. Our program does limit enrollment, due to staff availability and room size.

Our mission is to encourage the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of the children who participate. The caring and qualified staff is able to provide a safe, nurturing, on-site environment that is designed to help all children feel successful. Our Child Care Leaders are required to have a minimum of 12 units of college level training in Child Development and School-Age curriculum and recreation. Both Leaders and Assistants are experienced in working with school age children and have taken training classes offered through the district. All Leaders, as well as many Assistants are also CPR and First Aid certified.

The students enrolled in CVUSD Child Care have daily choices of activities and opportunities for individual expression. Students may choose to participate in arts and crafts, physical development activities, music and movement, computer and science centers and academic support. Our curriculum emphasizes the development of a sense of personal competence and interpersonal skills, such as conflict management and group cooperation.

Our program supports children in developing skills to make good choices, play safely, build self esteem and to become independent learners. To enroll in our Child Care program, a student must be enrolled in one of our CVUSD schools, be potty-trained and able to meet his or her basic needs.

For more information including registration, we encourage you to contact the CVUSD Child Care website or contact the Child Care department at 805-492-3567.
